Ann Jellicoe was first attracted to the idea of a play on Shelley’s life after a visit to Lerici while on an italian Holiday.
Although the style of this play marks a complete break from Ann Jellicoe’s earlier use of vocal rhythms to hold the audience’s attention, some scenes demonstrate clearly her skill in making over words into meaningful patterns of sound.
